As a Dutch company, Prins likes to work as local as possible. For example, we co-operate a lot with sheltered employment in our hometown Veenendaal, we call in regional companies for maintenance and technology, our packaging is made in the EU and the grains and vegetables in our dog and cat food come from Western Europe as much as possible from suppliers who we know and trust well.

Below we have listed for you where the grains and vegetables we use for our pressed kibble come from:

  • Rice

Rice is an important and easy to digest source of carbohydrates. It is one of the grains that give the least hypersensitivity reactions. This strong, fast-growing crop therefore fits well in a diet for sensitive animals. We use rice from Italy.

  • Wheat

Wheat is a source of glucose and energy and ensures a good structure of the diet. We use wheat from the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France or England.

  • Corn

Corn has the same characteristics as wheat and is rich in linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid, and in carotenoids, fat-soluble antioxidants. We only use corn from Europe.

Good to know
Prins only uses corn and wheat from Europe because these grains are not genetically modified and because we want to limit transportation as much as possible.

  • Sorghum

Sorghum is an important food crop that belongs to the grass family. It has a low glycemic index, which means that the glucose in the carbohydrates this crop contains is slowly absorbed into the blood. Prins uses sorghum from France.

Good to know
Some animals display a sensitivity to grains. That is why Prins also offers grain-free diets in which grains are replaced by carbohydrate sources from vegetables.

  • Potato

Raw potato is not healthy for dogs and cats, but cooked, this important food crop is a nutritious and tasty energy source. Prins uses potatoes from the Netherlands and Germany.

  • Pea

Pea is a commonly used vegetable, especially in grain-free diets. The starch in peas is digested slowly,  so slowly releasing the contained glucose into the blood. This means that the body gets bits of energy at a time instead of an energy peak. We only use peas from Europe, for example France.

  • Tapioca

Tapioca is also called cassava. The carbohydrates it contains also provide fibre that is important for gut health and intestine activity. To obtain these root tubers we have to travel a bit further: Prins uses tapioca from Indonesia and Thailand.
