Prins is not just about tasty and responsible food, but also about a complete lifestyle. Including fun, new ideas and attention to the animal at any given time, during every phase of its life. Being active and doing some healthy exercise, like for instance canicross, suits Prins perfectly. That’s why Prins loves supporting Canicross The Netherlands.

Canicross The Netherlands wants to excite dog lovers for three active sports; canicross, bikejoring and footbiking with your dog in nature. Real sports enthusiasts can match themselves against each other during competitions that Canicross The Netherlands frequently organises. The Canicross NL competitions will be named ‘Prins Challenge’.

What is canicross?

Canicross is running in nature with your leashed dog, that is running ahead of you strapped in a harness and attached to an elastic cord. The goal is to finish a course on dirt roads together as fast as possible. The sport is open to all sorts of dogs; big or small, breed or mixed, it’s all the same. As a contestant you will only need, besides an enthusiastic dog; a hip belt, a well-fitting harness, an elastic cord and some running gloves.

What is bikejoring?

Bikejoren is a dynamic sport in which the dog and its owner need to complete a bike track in a wooded area as a team. While the owner is riding an ATB, the dog is running ahead of the bike in a special harness which is attached to the bike by an elastic cord. Commands like ‘left’, ‘right’, ‘ahead’ and ‘go-go-go’ will be coaching the dog where to go. If you are interested in doing this sport, you will have to be able to control both your ATB and your dog at the same time.

What is footbiking?

When footbiking, the owner rides an offroad scooter (footbike). The dog is wearing a special harness which is attached to the scooter with an elastic cord. Usually, short distances from two to three kilometre are covered, during which both owner and dog are putting in a physical effort; you are obliged to help your dog whenever it is needed!

Exemption prohibition of tracking dogs

Using your dog’s tensile force, for instance on a bike or footbike, is restricted in The Netherlands. Check mijn.rvo.nl/ontheffing-trekhondenverbod for information about rules and regulations and which activities require dispensation.
