We have three fun tips for you to keep your pet busy and distracted inside! Tip 1: Sniff out something from the milk chunks.

Before you get started, a few things are important to know:

  • Always supervise, do not leave your animal alone during this activity.
  • Does your animal try to break the used materials? Stop the activity.
  • Will you have several animals playing at the same time? Make sure that there is no mutual competition and therefore no aggression.

Sniff out something from the milk chunks

In no time at all you can turn a lightweight plastic milk bottle into a challenging puzzle for your dog.

This is what you need:

  • An empty plastic milk bottle, we use a 2 liter bottle.
  • A handful of kibble, you can just use part of the daily meal for this.

What you need to do:

  • Clean and dry the bottle thoroughly.
  • Remove the screw cap and the loose ring underneath.
  • Fill the bottle with a layer of kibble.
  • Show your dog how, by tilting the bottle, you can get the kibble out again.
  • Give your dog the bottle and let him do the puzzle.
  • Guide and help him if necessary.

Playing is over? Take the bottle away by exchanging it for a kibble that you give to the dog from your hand. While giving that kibble you can pick up the bottle with your other hand.

Make it easy

If it takes too long for the kibble to come out of the bottle, your animal may get frustrated and quit, or start trying to break the bottle to get to the kibble.  If this is the case, make the puzzle easier by adding more kibble to the bottle, and demonstrate the puzzle by rolling and tilting the bottle to make the kibble fall out. Dogs learn a lot from watching!

Tip!

We use our Prins ProCare Protection kibble. The kibble is nice and big and does not roll out through the bottle opening too quick.

What to do for your cat?

Cats can do puzzles too! Use a smaller plastic bottle for them. It is important that you start easily and that you make sure that your cat can see and smell that his chunks are going into the bottle.
