We have three fun tips for you to keep your pet busy and distracted inside! Tip 2: The man with the hammer. Before you get started, a few things are important to know:

  • Always supervise, do not leave your animal alone during this activity.
  • Does your animal try to break the materials that you use? Stop the activity.
  • Will you have several animals working at the same time? Make sure that there is no mutual competition and therefore no aggression.

The man with the hammer

Many people give their dog a puzzle or toy with treats in it to entertain them inside the house. If you make the puzzle very difficult, it can cause your dog to become stressed by all the thinking about how to get the food instead of calmer. Often you see that dogs play with the puzzle in a rapid pace, gobble and no longer really enjoy the goodies they find. In that case we have a tip for you: the man with the hammer. Let’s have some fun!

This is what you need

  • A tea towel.
  • A hammer.
  • A handful of kibble, you can just use part of your daily meal for this.

What you need to do

  • Lay the tea towel unfolded on the floor and place a handful of kibble on top.
  • Close the tea towel closed by folding the corners towards each other and over each other.
  • Now beat the tea towel with a hammer to break the kibble into mini pieces. Your animal will of course stay at a safe distance!
  • Fold the tea towel open again and let your dog eat the pieces, which you can spread a bit further over the tea towel with your hand. Accompany him if necessary to prevent him from scratching or pulling at the tea towel and remove the towel after use.

Eating all those tiny chunks of food piece by piece requires and provides peace of mind.

Tip!

We use Prins ProCare Super Active pressed chunks. Pressed chunks are softer than our crunchy kibble, which makes them easier to crush into small pieces.

What to do with your cat?

Cats value the feeling in their mouth that the food gives them. They may not like a crushed cat kibble as much. Or maybe they do. Just try it out!
