Did you know that adult cats spend, on average, twelve to eighteen hours of their day sleeping? Kittens sleep even more!

Of course kittens are also busy with playing, eating, drinking, taking care of themselves and investigating the surroundings. But sleeping might just be the most important for them.

Sleep tight...

During sleep, important hormones for growth are released in the body. This is why it is very important not to disturb a kitten when it's sleeping. A cat knows many sleeping positions. When its legs are under the body, your kitten isn't really sleeping, even though it may have its eyes shut. Only when its entire body is relaxed, nicely rolled up or fully stretched out, is the animal in deep sleep.

Is your kitten asleep? Then please don't disturb it!

...and playing together

Besides sleep, movement is very important for a kitten. You can strengthen your mutual bond by stimulating the responsiveness of your kitten and playing together regularly. It is important that you slowly build up this play time, because your kitten is also growing a lot and therefore needs rest. Playing ensures that your kitten isn't as quickly bored and feels less stressed.

From mouse to ball

There is an abundance of toys available for your cat; from toy mice to balls and cat rods. Even more fun is to make the toys yourself. Think about a piece of paper or a ball of yarn. Don't let your cat play with your hands to prevent it from sinking its nails or teeth in them. You don't want that, so it's best not to teach it this!
