Does your cat have diarrhoea? Than something is wrong. How did it happen, and especially: how do you cure it? When an animal has diarrhea, it means that there is something wrong with the cat or that something goes wrong in the body. Diarrhea results in not optimally absorbing nutrients through the intestines. With long lasting diarrhea, the animal can show dehydration symptoms and will slowly begin to lose weight. Because fewer nutrients have been absorbed, your cat will also become lifeless.
The possible causes
- A virus.
This often gives your cat acute diarrhea which lasts a few days. - A worm infection.
Diarrhea can occur with a serious worm infection. - Giardia.
Giardia is an intestinal parasite which has very smelly stools as result. - Food hypersensitivity.
An unbalanced diet or a diet with a surplus of indigestible ingredients can lead to food hypersensitivity. This can cause a reaction in the intestines, which will result in diarrhea. Additional feeding like sausage and cheese or often the change of a diet can disturb the balance of the intestines, with diarrhea as the consequence. - Inflammation.
An inflamed intestine, can have trouble with absorbing ingredients and fluid out of the food slurry, because of the damaged intestinal wall.
