Dog celebrity Martin Gaus opened the new Edupet Education and Animal Welfare Centre in Lelystad, the Netherlands on Friday, October 18th. The centre, where everything revolves around learning with, from and about animals, is located on the site where the Martin Gaus Animal Hotel used to be.
Martin, who enjoyed great fame as a dog trainer and TV personality, unveiled a painting of himself during the opening ceremony. It is made up of hundreds of small photos, which represent his life's work. The painting hangs in a prominent place at the entrance, so that his philosophy remains visible to everyone.
Sharing knowledge
Edupet was set up by Prins Petfoods and has grown over the past ten years into an important independent training institute for learning about dogs, cats, rabbits and rodents and herps. The opening of the brand-new education and animal welfare centre in Lelystad is the icing on the cake and a valuable addition to the existing training facilities. Sharing knowledge has been the common thread at Prins since 1963, a core value which is expanded through Edupet.
Animal welfare
After the official opening, a sold-out Animal Welfare Conference took place in the centre on Saturday October 19th, where 120 participants delved into the theme of animal welfare. On Sunday October 20th, hundreds of interested parties came to take a look at the centre during an open house, where they could participate in workshops and presentations about animals.
Facilities
The new centre for practice-oriented education, especially about dogs, has various classrooms, a training field and consultation rooms for dog owners with questions about dog behaviour. There is also a veterinary clinic, an animal physiotherapist, and a grooming salon. More facilities like a doggy playground and sensory garden will be added in the spring of 2025.
